Yesterday was a big day of filmmaking in Sedona! It was a small crew (just Aaron and me, Alexis Marie) and we covered a lot of highway from Phoenix to Sedona, Arizona. Our shot list was long – but somehow we managed to check it all off.
We hiked Bell Mountain and filmed Aaron on the precipice of a cliff. He was wearing a full suit and tie I might add.
We climbed beneath an abandoned bridge and got dirty in the dry, cracked desert mud.
We captured creative scenes as the sun set over Cathedral Rock.
We interviewed a lovely woman named Bonnie who shared about her experience with miscarriage and infertility.
It was a busy day!
Sedona holds a very special place in my heart. It was there that I had a major epiphany in my journey of loss after Zachary died and in my struggle to “find myself” while pregnant with my next child.
The majesty of the towering red rock mountains, paired with a blanket of snow mid-March 2012, made me realize that I could hold both death and life inside of me. The paradox of lava rock and ice was profound. In that moment I was given a fresh perspective. It was a moment of personal transformation. (I have a chapter about this experience in my memoir, Expecting Sunshine)
I hope you enjoy the behind the scenes photos from our day filming in Sedona!
